Classic Car Appraisal Service carefully examined this 1957 Ford Thunderbird on June 7, 2023, in order to make a
determination of its current retail market value. The car was inspected at 4512 Forest Trail in Cincinnati, Ohio. The Thunderbird was purchased by the Muth family when it was brand new in 1957.
The 1955–57 Thunderbirds are simple and have a reputation for being relatively trouble-free. They were all equipped
a V-8 that could be ordered with either a manual or an automatic transmission. In total, 53,166 two-passenger
Thunderbirds were built during its three-year run: 16,155 for ’55, 15,631 for ’56, and 21,380 for ’57. Also the two passenger
Thunderbirds could be ordered with either a cloth top, a fiberglass top, or both.
The Muths chose to order their car with the optional 312cid V-8 with a single 4-bbl. carburetor that produced 245hp,
along with a 3-speed manual transmission with overdrive. They also chose to order both a hardtop and a soft top, but
for the hardtop, they decided to order it without the standard porthole window... a very rare option-delete that not
many people are familiar with. For those who ordered their 1957 T-bird without a porthole window in the hardtop,
instead a unique-to-1957 round trim badge was affixed, showing the stylized Thunderbird logo with its wings spread
in a V position (supposedly representing the V-8 under the hood). This Colonial White convertible with Flame Red
upholstery/trim has no other options, not even a radio.
Physically, this 25,000-mile Thunderbird is completely original: upholstery, paint, engine, glass, etc. It is completely
free of rust, and with some good detailing would look practically new. We noted some damage on the left side rocker
panel, which we were told happened when the car was nearly new when a relatively good-sized rock was scrubbed
against it. The weather stripping was in need of being replaced, a split in the seem of the middle of the bench seat
bottom needed repair, and the dashboard padding cover was noted as being warped. All of the glass was original to the
car, and appeared as new. The original carpet looked new, other than the rubber heal pad crumbling. The headliner in
the hardtop appeared as new. Inside the trunk, the floor covering appeared as new. The chassis had been undercoated
when new. We noted that the rear springs had some flaking paint, the rear-end was in need of being cleaned of oil,
and the drivers-side exhaust resonator needed to be replaced. From what we could see of the original soft top, it
appeared to be in like-new condition, other than needing its weather stripping replaced. Under the hood, the original
Thunderbird Special V-8 was in need of detailing in order to bring it back to new condition. We noted that the water
pump, along with radiator hoses, had been replaced.

While the car has just 25,000 miles on the odometer, it will require quite a bit of detail work to bring it up to show winning
condition, as well as some mechanical freshening. When finished, it will certainly be a prized addition for any
Thunderbird collector. It is our opinion that the car could look practically new without restoring.
